In recent years, an even smaller subset of the Cavalier King Charles has emerged, commonly referred to as the teacup Cavalier King Charles spaniel. These dogs are not recognized by the American Kennel Club or British Kennel Club, and they are generally regarded as a "designer" mutation of the standard Cavalier King Charles.
